Believing their marriage to be binding and eternal, she sacrifices everything for him. But Pinkerton sees their union as temporary, and when he returns years later with a new wife, Butterfly’s devotion meets its tragic fate.

Puccini’s radiant score, shimmering with colour and soaring lyricism, carries us through moments of aching intimacy to sweeping passion, culminating in one of opera’s most devastating finales.
