An ancient song about a Lime tree has inspired Early Bird’s latest
programme. The melody was included in Jacob van Eyck’s collection of
recorder tunes called ‘Der Fluyten Lust-hof’ (The Flutist’s Pleasure Garden).
An even earlier song about a small, delicate flower leads us to a piece for
guitar which is hot off the press, telling the story of a rose. And, as you
would expect from Early Bird, these fragrant offerings are surrounded by
more substantial Baroque sonatas, dances and variations, both familiar
and rarely-performed.
