Salisbury Medieval Hall

MUSIC PRAISING LIGHT BUT ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE PEACE OF EVENING

The Farrant Singers is the longest-established chamber choir in
Salisbury and has gained a fine reputation with a large following as a result (‘the concert was superlative’, ‘they go from
strength to strength’, ‘it was a complete delight from start to finish’). Taking its name from ‘John Farrant’ who was an especially acclaimed ‘Organist and Master of the Children’ at Salisbury Cathedral in the 16 th century, the choir was founded in 1958 by the composer Richard Lloyd. Conductors since then have included Mark Deller, Richard Shephard, Colin Howard and Daniel Cook. Andrew Mackay took up the baton in December 2011 and has recently been joined last December by Philip Lawson as co-director. It is Andrew who will conduct this evening’s concert.
The choir, which numbers around 30, rehearses in the Salisbury
Medieval Hall. However, this will be their first concert at the venue and
we are delighted to welcome them to enhance our festival.
